In 2023, David and Commonwealth Cares volunteered at SOS Children’s Village in Costa Rica, creating a Safe Haven for underprivileged children. SOS Children’s Villages ensure that children grow up with care and protection. David and the team helped build a dome and sustainable gardens, offering the community a peaceful space for reflection and creative expression.
COMMONWEALTH CARES
In August of 2023, David joined forces with Commonwealth Financial Network, our broker-dealer, to volunteer at the SOS Children’s Village in Costa Rica. Their mission was to create a Safe Haven for underprivileged children.​
There are over 1.3 million children and young people in Costa Rica. While it’s an upper-middle-income country, it still grapples with growing inequality. While the government has implemented programs to combat poverty and child labor, many children continue to need additional support to grow up in safe and nurturing environments.
The SOS Children's Villages ensures that children grow up with the care, protection, and relationships they need to become their strongest selves.​​
​When young people from the village feel ready to move out of the family home to pursue further education or vocational training, the SOS Youth Program makes shared accommodation available to them. With the support of qualified counsellors, the young people live together and learn to take responsibility, plan their future, and prepare for independent adult life.
​
Together, David and the team constructed a dome and built sustainable gardens for the community. This provided the community with a quiet space to experience solitude while still being surrounded by nature and a forum to express themselves through dancing, singing, and acting.
