(COLLIERVILLE, TN) – On August 3rd, 2015, David Pickler, President of Pickler Wealth Advisors, was appointed to the Tennessee Academic Standards Recommendation Committee. The committee is comprised of 10 members who will review education standards in Tennessee.
Pickler, former chairman of the Shelby County Board of Education, Co-Founder and President of the American Public Education Foundation (APEF), and Past President of the National School Boards Association (NSBA), was one of three people appointed by House Speaker Beth Harwell.
“I am very humbled and honored to have been nominated by Speaker Harwell to serve on this vitally important committee,” said Pickler. “I believe steadfastly in establishing and maintaining high academic standards for Tennessee’s public schools.”
Joining Pickler on the panel are appointees by Gov. Bill Haslam and Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, whom together will recommend changes to Tennessee’s K-12 education standards in Math and English Language Arts based on detailed work and evaluation of the standards by Tennessee teachers and educators.
“Over the past decade, Tennessee has become a national leader in educational reform,” continued Pickler. “It will be the responsibility of this committee to ensure that we continue our pursuit of academic excellence for all children throughout our great state.”
The committee will meet several times starting in mid-August and continue through December 2015 to review and make recommendations to the Tennessee State Board of Education.
